PALNI libraries are distributed geographically throughout the state of Indiana, with the largest concentrations of sites in the Indianapolis area and in the northeast quadrant of the state.

In January of 2011, PALNI began a process of moving to larger data centers and cooperative venues.  ExLibris products SFX and MetaLib were moved to the ExLibris Data Center at Quest in February and March.  Primo began implementation at ExLibris hosting.  Aleph, the PALNI ILS, was moved to ExLibris in May 2011.  Instead of purchasing new servers that were required to upgrade to the latest version of CONTENTdm, the PALNI CONTENTdm collections were moved to OCLC. Listservs, web hosting, and email was moved to Dreamhost and Google Apps. DNS server management and EZproxy hosting and management were moved to OhioNet’s brand new data facility in May 2011.

PALNI was one of the first large-scale library automation network to use the Internet as its primary “production” link between participating libraries and the central, shared computer system that was located at the former INCOLSA office in Indianapolis and had network access through Indiana Higher Education Telecommunications System (IHETS). INCOLSA/MCLS provided project staff to manage the PALNI systems until June 2011.  PALNI has been an IHETS member organization since 1992, and in the early 1990′s helped to fund implementation of IHETS’ original state-wide Internet backbone for Indiana academic institutions.
