Defining discussion lists
A Listserv discussion group is an e-mail distribution list through which people can post and respond to messages pertaining to a particular topic. Listserv discussion groups are also referred to as “distribution lists” or just “lists.” Each Listserv list resides on a computer that receives and distributes the messages to all the subscribers.
Joining a list
To subscribe to a list, open this page and click on the name of list. On the page that opens, follow the instructions under the heading: Subscribing to [listname].
Viewing list members
You can view current list members, but you must be a subscribed member of the list. To see a list of the subscribed members, open this page and click on the name of list. On the page that opens, follow the instructions under the heading: [listname] Subscribers. In that section, enter your e-mail address and password and click Visit Subscriber List.
To take your name off a discussion list, open this page and click on the name of list you wish to unsubscribe. On the page that opens, follow the instructions under the heading: [listname] Subscribers. In that section, enter your e-mail address in the box next to To Unsubscribe or Edit Options.
Viewing list options
You can also view and edit your personal discussion list settings. In your welcome e-mail message, you should see a link to your personal e-mail settings that looks like this:
Edit paldigital to be the name of the subscribed list. The %40 replaces the @ symbol in this example. You would put your e-mail username and institution name in that place. (e.g. sparker%40depauw.edu = email@example.com).
