Governance and Leadership

PALNI is led by a board of directors comprised of leaders from all twenty-four of its supported libraries, as well as an executive director.

Funding

PALNI supported libraries pay annual membership fees that cover the costs to operate and manage the PALNI Project and systems. PALNI has received several grants over the years for specific program purposes, including a five-year grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. in support of our PALSave program, and an IMLS 2-year grant to support the development of Hyku, a low-cost, collaborative institutional repository.

Supported Library Contribution

Each institution is required to contribute knowledgeable staff to boards, advisory groups, and task forces through deep collaboration. Expertise developed by each library is returned through the ability to advance deeper skillsets and experience across the twenty-four libraries and reduce duplication of problem-solving, environmental scanning, strategic planning, and development. Investments made by each school in their staff come back twenty-four-fold through the work of advisory groups, task forces, one on one work, and conferences and through the coordination of PALNI staff.

Consortial Leadership

The Board of Directors elects a five-member Executive Committee (EC) with responsibility for the operation of the organization. The PALNI Executive Director acts as an ex officio member of the EC and serves as the main point of contact for external organizations. The PALNI EC includes a rotating Chair, Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and Past-Chair, and the PALNI Executive Director, and meets in person approximately 6 times each year with additional virtual meetings.
